Summary of Curricular Changes

Over the course of the past year, the EPAC committee reviewed an unusually large number of programs and courses, including 21 new programs, 49 revised programs, deactivated 4 programs, and approved 3 programs moving to a moratorium. In addition, the committee reviewed and approved 85 new courses and 417 revised courses, with 386 of those revisions being component updates. Thank you to the college curriculum committees that reviewed these changes and to the units that updated the components. These updates will allow for accurate reporting and workload guidance for the campus.

Wondering if the fee changes submitted in January will be in effect this fall? Each fee has been reviewed by the Provost’s Office and will next be reviewed at the June 22 Board of Regent’s meeting. As soon as our office has news about any proposed changes for fall, we’ll reach out to each unit that submitted a fee change proposal to let you know the decision of the Board of Regents on each fee change.

Cambridge International

UNO will be accepting Cambridge International exams scores as Credit for Prior Learning beginning this fall. The Cambridge International (CI) program is a curriculum leading to exams that reward students for their engagement in this rigorous college preparatory exam.  High school students can take AS & A level courses and exams to potentially earn college credit or advanced placement. Students who participate in this program enroll in specially designed courses through their high school and take international exams in June or November. Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, and Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year.

Student Exchange Visitor Program Update

On 12 May, the Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) announced that the COVID-19 regulatory leniency for permitting international student enrollment in online and remote modes of course instruction was rescinded. For Fall 2023, current and prospective international students in the U.S. on F or J visas, are again strictly limited to taking only one totally online (850 sections) or remote class (820 sections) as part of their full-time course load; 12 credits for undergraduates and 9 credits for graduate students. The required modalities for the majority of classes are in-person lectures (001 sections) or hybrid instruction (860 sections). Also, international students may not take the final class in an online or remote modality.

Office of Engagement (OE) Highlights and Updates)

This year, we are celebrating 25 years of amazing service learning at UNO. The celebration kicked off with the UNO Service Learning Academy (SLA) annual Service Learning Showcase – and a special edition newsletter. The newsletter features a timeline of service learning at UNO, stories about these partnerships, and demonstrates impact. This semester the OE also worked with multiple faculty throughout campus to identify activities of community engagement – adding to the partnerships we showcase in the Community Engagement Partnership Initiative (CEPI). Thank you to the faculty who helped support this effort this spring and in previous years. More announcements to come this Fall of 2022.
