Check out the new Initiatives section on the Academic Affairs website.
To ensure transparency, we have established a dedicated section of pages where stakeholders can find comprehensive information on current Academic Affairs-led initiatives. These pages will serve as a central hub for communication, enabling the university community to stay informed and engaged in the ongoing efforts to enhance the academic experience at UNO.
The Weitz Innovation and Excellence Fund is open for the first round of applications through NuRamp! This initiative seeks to inspire faculty and staff to develop and implement new ideas that will propel UNO from good to great.
This inaugural round of funding calls for proposals to be submitted by September 1, 2024. Detailed information regarding the proposal process and timelines can be found on our Academic Affairs Initiatives website.
In our commitment to transparency and accessibility, Academic Affairs will be hosting another town hall session. This will provide an opportunity for the UNO community to engage in dialogue concerning the purpose of the funding and the submission requirements. We invite you to join us on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in Mammel Hall 117.
Academic Analytics Dashboard
Academic Affairs is partnering with Gray Decision Intelligence in creating a user-friendly interface for academic program data. Our campus currently has the Academic Department Indicators (ADI) we’ve used, for example, as part of our campus program review process. While the ADI is helpful to see data at a department or college level, the new Academic Analytics Dashboard will enable academic programs to see their student outcomes data disaggregated at the course level, by major, or at the department level.
In addition, the Academic Analytics Dashboard incorporates the economics of course delivery and will enable programs to show their financial contribution to the campus. This initiative marks a pivotal step toward empowering academic programs to have the data they need for data-intelligent decision-making.
Please stay tuned to our Academic Affairs Initiatives website for more information, including updates on its rollout, training opportunities, and resources available to support your use of the platform.
Commencement
Let’s celebrate! Encourage your faculty to attend commencement to celebrate with and show support for our graduating students and their families. Full regalia is required. Additional information on the May commencement ceremonies can be found on the Commencement website.
End-of Degree Program Assessment
The focus of end-of degree program assessment is to create a culture of continuous improvement to better assure academic program quality and relevance at UNO. To further this goal, all academic units are required to have and execute assessment plans for each degree program that include end-of-program student learning outcomes (SLOs) and describe and report on data collection, analysis, and use to inform curricular and/or programmatic decisions.
At this time, the programs listed on the cycle sheetare likely to be on the assessment cycle next year. This list is subject to change, but programs on the list should tentatively plan on submitting an end-of-degree program assessment report by the end of January of 2025. More information about the process can be found on the Academic Assessment website, or by contacting Matt Tracy. Additional details will be shared at the beginning of the fall semester.
UNO Welcomes 25 Leaders from Southeast Asia to UNO
The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) welcomed 25 youth civic leaders from Southeast Asia to Omaha, Nebraska, for an international exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs. The signature program, YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative), has been administered by UNO for 10 years by UNO International Programs in partnership this year with the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media.
The five-week academic residency invites young leaders from 11 different countries in Southeast Asia to experience civic engagement, leadership development, and American history, government, culture, and society, with educational and cultural site visits focused on community building and outreach.
Dr. Jody Neathery-Castro, UNO Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement and YSEALI Principal Director, highlighted, "Omaha is a fantastic location to learn about philanthropy and engagement from our vibrant nonprofit community, and our community and political leaders are open and accessible to these young leaders. We are thrilled to share our resources with the world in this way."
