Course, Lab, and Misc. Fees

Please send requests for new or changed (increased, decreased, and deleted) course, lab, and misc. fees on the Course, Laboratory, Miscellaneous Fee Proposals Form as a Word document with the signature page saved as a PDF to curriculum@unomaha.edu. Please use the subject line: 2024-2025 Proposed Fee Approval Form and submit by the deadline of December 15, 2023, to begin the campus review process. For more information, you may wish to review the UNO policies of Request of Course, Laboratory, and Miscellaneous Fees and Student Fee Administration Policy carefully, as well as the links to the Board of Regents policy.

Student Honors Convocation

It’s that time of year when we start preparing to celebrate our many outstanding students who will be graduating this academic year. This year’s Student Honors Convocation will be held on April 26th, 2024 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, at Strauss Performing Arts Center.

    December Commencement

    Let’s celebrate!  Encourage your faculty to attend commencement on Friday, 12/15 to celebrate with and show support for our graduating students and their families.  Full regalia is required. The morning ceremony (9 am) is for A&S, CEHHS, and UNL Engineering.  The afternoon ceremony (2 pm) is for CBA, CFAM, CPACS, and IS&T.

    J-Session

    Per the academic calendar MOU, faculty time is protected during the first two weeks of the j-session (i.e., Tues., 1/2 through Sun., 1/14.  Faculty are back on Tues., 1/16 and classes begin Mon., 1/22.  Faculty and Chairs/Directors with 12-month appointments and/or with administrative duties are expected to fulfill all obligations starting Tues., 1/2.

    AA -- Jacob Eitzen

    Jacob Eitzen, a UNO dual enrollment math teacher at Bellevue West High School, and UNO alum, was recently awarded the prestigious Milken Educator Award. This is one of the nation’s preeminent teacher educator awards and Mr. Eitzen was one of only 28 teachers nationwide to be recognized for the 2023-2024 academic year.

    General Education - Spring 2024 Reading Circle

    Join us for a Spring 2024 reading circle exploring the value of liberal arts in shaping the structure of a new general education curriculum at UNO. Led by Matt Tracy, Director of General Education in Academic Affairs, and the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), this self-regulated group will discuss a common book and will be considered a Community of Practice by CFE. Communities of Practice participants receive $100 in professional development funds.

    Potential book options include:

    Assessment & Accreditation

    Program SLO Assessment Reports Due

    Programs on the 2023-2024 end-of-program assessment cycle should submit their assessment reports using the online submission system no later than Jan 31. There are three virtual drop-in sessions prior to the due date in which faculty/staff can participate if they need assistance submitting their reports. These dates include:

    • Jan 17: 10:00-11:00 AM
    • Jan 23: 1:00-2:00 PM
    • Jan 30: 9:00-10:00 AM

    Interested faculty/staff can join anytime during the available windows using this Zoom link. Participants will be directed to a virtual waiting room if other faculty/staff are already receiving assistance. Please contact programassessment@unomaha.edu if you need assistance outside of these times.

    Competency-based Education Charrette with C-BEN

    December 7, 8:30 – 4:00 and December 8, 10:00 – 3:00

    UNO will host two days of workshops on competency-based education (CBE). The objectives of the workshops are to help UNO:

    1. Identify the key CBE principles, including its history, pedagogical roots, the national landscape, and implementation approaches
    2. Define a value proposition and vision for CBE
    3. Explore implementation factors for CBE, and review academic, student services, business processes, and systems points of consideration
    4. Generate a project plan to resolve identified barriers on an institutional-specific timeline
    5. Cultivate buy-in and shared ownership of CBE project across stakeholders

    Numerous workshops led by the Competency-based Education Network (C-BEN) will be offered and designed for specific audiences including UNO’s Executive Leadership Team, deans, assistant/associate deans, chairs/directors, faculty, instructional designers, business managers, advisors, and other student affairs and operational staff.     Writing J(am) Session

    Kudos to the 60+ faculty and graduate students who participated in the fall 10-day writing challenge. Each committed to writing one hour a day for 10 consecutive days (M-F). The next faculty writing opportunity is the Writing J(am) Session, January 8-12, a five-day immersive writing experience.

    Avoiding and Addressing Microaggressions in Service Learning and Community Engagement 

    The Service Learning Academy (SLA) invites you to an interactive workshop for faculty, staff, and community partners exploring key concepts associated with bias and microaggressions and their impact in the service learning setting.

    MLK Day of Service

    Volunteer and Civic Engagement Programs (VCE) is gearing up for the first Signature Service Day of 2024, Martin Luther King Jr. Day - January 15. Information about this and other service events will be available on our website soon. Additional Signature Service Days for Spring 2024 include 7 Days of Service on March 11 - 17, 2024, and Earth Day of Service on April 19th, 2024. If your students are interested in participating in these events feel free to have them reach out to Toni Monette, Volunteer and Civic Engagement Programs Coordinator
