Mavericks,
Being a part of a global community means that we all feel the impact of a crisis, no matter the distance.
The violence and destruction we are witnessing in Ukraine has reverberated across the world, and the geopolitical and potential economic fallout of these events are highly concerning. While we are relieved to report there are no UNO students, faculty, or staff in the impacted region, we understand that members of our Maverick community may have loved ones directly impacted.
Remember, you are not alone.
Witnessing news reports and social media activity around these events may be upsetting, especially for those in our community who have family or friends in the region, or have experienced war, conflict, or violence in their lives. If the past week of events have impacted your emotional or mental health, we have a number of campus resources to help support you.
At a time when we are all struggling to make sense of the world around us, I am thankful UNO is home to faculty who can share their insights to give us a deeper, more meaningful understanding of what we are witnessing.
I strongly encourage our campus community to take advantage of a unique opportunity to hear from leading scholars on the subject during a special Human Rights Forum on Thursday, March 3, at 12 P.M. hosted by UNO’s Goldstein Center for Human Rights.
During the forum, experts from UNO, Fort Hays State, and Harvard will discuss the situation on the ground in Ukraine; the response of the USA, NATO, and the EU to the Russian invasion; military developments; and International Humanitarian Law in times of war.
This virtual event is free to attend, but registration is required: Register Here
I want you to know that above all else we are a campus community, and we are each committed to doing what we can to work together as a part of our wider global society.
