Mavericks,
Welcome to a new academic year! I hope the summer months gave you an opportunity to recharge and relax with loved ones.
The first day of classes always brings a new energy to campus life that drives us to excel in the classroom and have a positive impact on our community. I am thrilled to begin a new chapter with our incredible students, faculty, and staff.
At the center of every great university experience are the connections you make with your peers. This year’s Durango Days schedule provides amazing opportunities to explore our campus and build relationships that will sustain you throughout your time at UNO. Bookmark the Fall 2023 New Semester Guide, whether you are new to our campus community or could use a refresher, to make sure the information and resources you need are readily available. Don’t forget to check out the Omaha Athletics calendar for opportunities to cheer on our Maverick student-athletes! Students get into every regular season home game at no cost with their MavCARD. Faculty and staff can take advantage of great discounts on season or single game tickets.
In case you missed it, we shared some exciting news over the summer that created momentum for our university as we head into the fall semester. Our student-athletes earned a 3.522 Spring 2023 semester GPA, we announced new microcredential offerings, UNOTheatre hosted its annual Summer Musical Theatre Academy, students continued to save money on textbooks through the Open Nebraska initiative, and the University of Nebraska Foundation announced a $25 million gift from Barbara and Wally Weitz. Each of these milestones, and many more, were made possible by Mavericks who find new ways to innovate and transform lives on campus and across the Omaha community.
As you gear up to learn, teach, and work, remember that how we approach today will set the tone for the entire academic year. Find something that inspires you, get out of your comfort zone, build new friendships, and inspire others to be their very best self.
Here’s to a great first day, a memorable week, and another exceptional year at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Go Mavs!
