February 8, 2024: Dr. Bridget Sandhoff, Associate Professor of Art History, will discuss Bak's relationship to the Etruscan city of Tarquinia, its history, and how it served as an inspiration for Bak's painting during his Italian residency.

Curator Talks begin with a performance by a UNO flute student at 5:15 P.M. and are followed by a lecture by SBMLC Chief Curator Alexandra Cardon at 5:45 P.M. These Thursday evening lectures will be presented on a variety of topics that relate to the current exhibition Becoming a Witness: From Abstraction to Figuration. RSVP required. Free to the public.

SBMLC hired a Director of Education
Jody Boyer is the Director of Education for the Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center where she leads efforts to engage the K-12 community to utilize the Museum in teaching and learning. She designs curriculum, facilitates K-12 field trips, and provides professional development to educators and school districts across the region. She is also responsible for creating strategic, innovative approaches to using the Museum’s collection and art to educate about the Holocaust, human rights, and histories of genocide. Before joining the Museum, Jody taught in a variety of P-16 environments including Universities, public schools, and community nonprofits throughout the Midwest. Jody has been a faculty member in Art and Art History at the University of Nebraska since 2004. In 2023 she was awarded the CFAM Part-Time Faculty Teaching Award. Between 2010 and 2023 Jody was also a K-12 art educator for Omaha Public Schools. As a classroom teacher, she received the 2016 Nebraska Outstanding Art Educator of the Year award by the Nebraska Art Teachers Association. As an artist, she believes that creating art can transform lives. She maintains an active studio practice and tries to make art every day. Her artwork has been shown in over 95 peer-reviewed exhibitions across the country, including at the Des Moines Art Center, the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, the Sioux City Art Center, and South Bend Regional Museum.
