I can hardly believe it’s already the halfway point in the semester and that Fall Break is just around the corner! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the start of a new academic year with Durango Days, but now we are past our Homecoming celebrations and turning our focus to the important work we have ahead of us in the coming weeks and months.
I hope that you enjoy a well-deserved break from the semester next Monday and Tuesday as you take the time to rest, recharge, and get reinvigorated at the thought of all you will be able to accomplish. There is no question that the work you’ve put in up to this point will serve you well, and that the connections you’ve made with your fellow students, as well as your faculty and our amazing staff, will help support you no matter what your goals are.
As you begin your Fall Break, don’t forget these key opportunities and resources available to you as part of our Maverick community.
Have a great and fruitful Fall Break, Mavericks. We’ll see you again on Wednesday, Oct. 19!
Sincerely,
JoAnne Li, Ph.D., CFA
UNO Chancellor
Fall and Winter Wellness Tips
As temperatures drop, the risk for physical illness increases. That means now is the perfect time to review resources that will keep you healthy and safe as we move through the fall season. Review this Fall and Winter Wellness at UNO article for student, faculty, and staff-specific information as well as seasonal wellness tips.
Get Your Flu Shot
Because the flu and COVID-19 have similar symptoms, it is highly recommended that all students, faculty, and staff receive the flu vaccine to prevent respiratory illness on campus. Flu shots are now available from the Nebraska Medicine UNO Health Center. Learn more about you eligibility and ways to get vaccinated this semester.
Plan Your Advising Appointment
It’s never too early to start making plans for next semester. If you are not planning to graduate this December, take the time to review our listing of classes for Spring 2023 and make an appointment with your advisor through MavTRACK before early enrollment begins the week of Oct. 24.
Wear Black. Get Loud.
A break from the semester doesn’t mean a break from showing your Maverick Spirit! As students, you can get in, at no cost, to any Maverick athletic event with just your MavCARD. This weekend the men’s and women’s soccer teams, as well as the women’s volleyball team, are in action against Summit League opponents so you can cheer on the Mavs in person!
Connect, Take Care, Get Help The year has been one of great change and sometimes great uncertainty. It’s okay to not be okay. Mental wellness is a journey and you never have to walk it alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, UNO is ready to help.
