Dear Colleagues,
It’s hard to believe, but we are fast approaching the start of another academic year and we can’t wait to kick it off with a packed week full of excitement and engaging events our students will experience throughout Durango Days beginning with Sunday's Convocation.
This summer has been a busy one and so our leadership team wanted to provide a few updates, reminders, and resources you can take advantage of as we begin our new academic year so you have the information you need to make this upcoming semester a truly special one.
First, it is incredibly important that we are all committed to keeping each other safe. We take the health and wellbeing of our campus community seriously, which is why our Department of Public Safety is continuing to monitor any health risks to campus, including COVID-19 and Monkeypox. Additionally, our officers offer a wealth of services and trainings to help you stay prepared in any emergency. To get quick information in an emergency, make sure you are signed up for UNOAlert and your contact information is current.
We also wanted to let you know that in the coming weeks we will be sharing details regarding our university’s strategic vision. Your feedback, ideas, and Maverick thinking have been truly valuable in carving out a path to achieve things that no university has ever dared dream possible.
You can see these seeds already taking root on campus. We are continuing important renovations to the Durham Science Center and we will soon be addressing other needs across our campus including updates to our Health and Kinesiology Building, Maverick Landing, and Roskens Hall. Stay tuned for updates!
For those of you teaching, we encourage you to review the Teaching Policies, Procedures, and Policies memo and check out the resources available to you through our Center for Faculty Excellence.
Finally, it is important to remember that one of the best ways we can support each other is to take care of ourselves. In addition to the resources mentioned above, there are a number of other resources available to you as members of our Maverick community to support your physical, mental, and professional wellness:
If you have recently joined us, welcome to the UNO community! We are so excited to have you here. And to those continuing their Maverick journey, we want to say "Welcome back!"
Once again, thank you, everyone, for everything you have done, and will do, for our community, for yourself, and for each other.
Have an amazing semester, and Go Mavs!
Sincerely,
Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA
