I can hardly believe it’s already the halfway point in the semester and that Fall Break is just around the corner! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the start of a new academic year, but as we reach the midway point of the semester, I know we are all turning our attention to the important work we have ahead of us in the coming weeks and months.
As our students enjoy a well-deserved break next Monday and Tuesday, I hope that each of you also has the chance to rest, recharge, and get reinvigorated at the thought of all we can accomplish as a campus community in support of our amazing Maverick students. There is no question that the work you’ve put in up to this point will serve you well and I want you all to know that my team is here to help support you.
Ahead of campus holiday next week, I wanted to remind you of several key opportunities and resources available to you as part of our Maverick community.
Have a great and fruitful weekend and Fall Break, Mavericks!
Sincerely,
JoAnne Li, Ph.D., CFA
UNO Chancellor
Fall and Winter Wellness Tips
As temperatures drop, the risk for physical illness increases. That means now is the perfect time to review resources that will keep you healthy and safe as we move through the fall season. Review this Fall and Winter Wellness at UNO article for student, faculty, and staff-specific information as well as seasonal wellness tips.
Get Your Flu Shot
Because the flu and COVID-19 have similar symptoms, it is highly recommended that faculty and staff receive the flu vaccine to prevent respiratory illness on campus. Flu shots are now available from the Nebraska Medicine UNO Health Center, by appointment, for our employees. As a reminder, many employees are eligible for $0 co-pays for flu shots with the use of an in-network pharmacy.
Wear Black. Give Back.
It isn’t too late to show your support for our students through the annual “Wear Black, Give Back” one-day donation drive. We have already raised more than $420,000, shattering our record from last year! There are still multiple challenges and goals across our colleges, student groups, and other units that you can help achieve before Wear Black, Give Back ends today at noon today, Thursday, Oct. 13, so please consider donating if you have not already!
Mark These Dates on Your Calendar

Connect, Take Care, Get Help The year has been one of great change and sometimes great uncertainty. It’s okay to not be okay. Mental wellness is a journey and you never have to walk it alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, UNO is ready to help.
