Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center is a space where art is the gateway to a conversation on human rights, Holocaust education, and genocide. The Spring 2026 exhibition, Justice and Hope, explores how artists Samuel Bak, Dinh Q. Lê, Mladen Miljanović, Serge Nitegeka, and Maja Ruznic use intertwining personal narrative and historical facts to commemorate conflicts and denounce humanity’s inability to forgo violence. The exhibition poses questions on reconciliation and how we might learn from history to build better futures.

Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center thanks the following sponsors for their generous support of Justice and Hope and accompanying educational programs and events.

Museum Spotlight

Meet Alexandra Cardon - Chief Curator

I graduated from the University of St Andrews with a joint MA in Art History and International Relations, University College of London with an MA in History of Art, and I am nearing the completion of my PhD in Art History. I have worked in several Museums. Up until now my favorite experience was my time at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where I was the exhibition and research assistant for the centennial Salvador Dali retrospective – a traveling exhibition of over 300 Dalis! The Bak Museum project is extremely exciting as it involves the creation of a Museum around Bak’s donation of 512 paintings to the University. Bak has recently allowed us to invite other artists to the conversation, which means I get to include work from American and international artists! Three random facts about me: I love deep purple, Nina Simone, and drinking hot chocolate at Angelina’s on a grey winter day. I won’t pick a favorite Bak because I must look after 512 of them and can’t give them preferential treatment (joking, there is one that has not yet been shown that I cannot wait to bring to Omaha).
