As the semester begins to wrap up, many students will be working on significant end-of-course projects. You can increase the likelihood of their success and help them practice self-management skills by using these strategies:

📅 Set Structured Milestones

To prevent procrastination, break the project into smaller, manageable parts with clear deadlines. Establish regular check-ins where students can discuss progress, ask questions, and receive feedback.

📚 Provide Resources and Connections to Campus Support

Students can benefit from research guides, templates, and encouragement to access university support services (e.g., Writing Centers, Speech Center, Library). Students are much more likely to access support if an instructor recommends it!

🤝 Incorporate Peer Review

Create opportunities for students to share ideas, critique each other's work, and troubleshoot challenges together. This can improve the quality of their projects while also developing teamwork and communication skills.

The UNO Alert app logo and three smartphone screens displaying the app’s interface. The app provides emergency contacts, campus safety tools, and alert notifications. Features include Friend Walk, emergency procedures, and threat alerts for weather, fire, and medical emergencies.

Encourage students to download the UNO Alert app. The app allows students access to personal safety and support resources in the palm of their hand. It helps students connect with support resources (e.g., CAPS, Maverick Advising Center, Career Services, UNO Health Center, Military-Connected Resource Center). Students can also request a friend walk, access a campus shuttle tracker, and emergency management procedures.

Available through the Apple App Store and Google Play, UNO Alert is a great resource for faculty and staff as well!
