An Afternoon with Samuel Bak
In celebration of our one-year anniversary, Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center (SBMLC) hosted “An Afternoon with Samuel Bak” on April 13. Over 80 people were in attendance for this intimate conversation with Samuel and Alexandra Cardon, the Museum’s Chief Curator. Samuel, who joined the conversation via Zoom, shared personal stories with the group and his gratitude to everyone who has supported the Museum’s mission.

Using a variety of mediums, Gardea summons a collective of ongoing ideas and feelings within the viewer.
Gardea’s interactive workshop will offer participants the opportunity to reconceptualize how they participate and reflect on the creative act. Through movement, writing, and drawing, participants will work on the exchange of memory and discuss their hopes for their future selves. (20 participants max)
The current exhibition, Becoming a Witness: From Abstraction to Figuration, is on display through June 30, 2024. The show explores Samuel Bak’s struggle to represent his experiences during the Holocaust by examining how he devised a novel approach to painting in the late sixties to commemorate the six million lives lost and question the endless cycles of war and genocide that plague our world.
Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center will be closed on Wednesday, May 9 for a private event.

Educators will gain tangible resources that can be easily integrated into their curriculum. Learning about primary sources related to the Holocaust will be a focus of this training. This in-service, on June 3rd, is open to all content areas that incorporate Holocaust education in their curriculum or those who seek to incorporate Holocaust education in their curriculum in the future.
