Mavericks,
We are quickly approaching the end of the year, but it is never too soon to look ahead to the future and plan for a safe and successful Spring 2022 semester.
Earlier this fall we announced a range of updated COVID-19 guidelines and resources that have served us extremely well these past few months. I want to thank everyone for their commitment to keeping our campus healthy by monitoring their symptoms through the 1-Check UNO app, wearing masks indoors, remaining safely physically distanced at events, and staying home if they are feeling unwell.
Because of these successes, current COVID precautions are expected to remain in large part the same as we begin the Spring 2022 semester, with one notable change being the return to standard spacing in classrooms and labs.
As we have from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic we will closely monitor this evolving situation and make adjustments as needed based on recommendations from the Douglas County Health Department or the Centers for Disease Control.
One of the biggest accomplishments of these past few months has been the success of our Office of Health Security to effectively test, trace, and help provide access to vaccinations.
We will be continuing to offer these services in the new semester and will continue to work in close partnership with the Douglas County Health Department in providing access to preventative care against COVID-19 during the cold and flu season, especially as we learn more about the status of the Omicron variant of the virus.
As a reminder, students, faculty, and staff can receive a self-administered test at no cost at the UNO COVID Testing Site located in the Health and Kinesiology Building on Dodge Campus with registration through our Office of Health Security.
Those who believe they have COVID-19 symptoms are encouraged to contact their primary health provider or schedule a tele-health appointment with the Nebraska Medicine UNO Health Center.
If you do test positive for COVID-19 at any point, please report it to our Office of Health Security, which will then contact you with next steps.
The Nebraska Medicine UNO Health Center is also offering Pfizer vaccinations and booster doses, which can be scheduled through calling 402.554.2374. There are also a variety of community locations where you can access a vaccination.
For all other updates, guidance, and information on how to help us keep COVID-19 off our campus and out of our community, please visit the UNO Maverick COVID Response website.
Have a great, happy, and healthy final weeks of the semester!
Sincerely,
Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA
