Dear Mavericks,
Earlier this week I received news that an affiliate office for our Center for Afghanistan Studies, located in the city of Kabul, was destroyed Aug. 3 at 7:55 P.M. local time due to an attack on a neighboring building.
While I am relieved to report that no UNO staff members were in the building at the time of the attack and no individuals who work in the office were harmed, I am shocked and heartbroken at this act of violence, especially knowing the importance of the work being done by our team and their colleagues.
This is a solemn reminder that we in Omaha are part of a truly global community, and that we must always work to promote understanding and compassion over anger and violence.
Today I ask all Mavericks to support the UNO staff members impacted by this tragic event in their time of need. Please consider making a contribution to help support activities for the Center for Afghanistan Studies to continue to make an impact in the region through the UNO Center for Afghanistan Studies Fund for Excellence established through the University of Nebraska Foundation.
Sincerely,
Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA
UNO Chancellor
