Dear Fellow Maverick,
During the last two weeks we have seen something amazing as our entire campus and university community came to life with the start of the Fall 2021 semester.
What many of us on campus didn’t see were the countless hours of support that you and our network of advisors across campus poured into each one of our new and returning Mavericks to ensure their success.
The early days of a new academic year are among the most fulfilling and exciting aspects of working in higher education, but I also recognize they are the most mentally and emotionally taxing on our advising staff. Our students count on you to have answers when they have questions. They depend on your experience and knowledge of our university for advice. You are a sounding board, a calming presence in anxious times, a friend to celebrate with, and sometimes a shoulder to cry on.
You understand that being on the front lines of student success is not an easy task – especially as we navigate the pandemic together – and yet you rise to the occasion every day. I cannot thank you enough.
Our mission is to ensure our students graduate on time with minimal student debt and find a career they love upon graduation. So, whenever you have a great idea or identify an opportunity to better support that mission, I want to hear about it and support you in return. It is very important to me to engage with you during my 100-day listening tour on campus, so be sure to keep an ear and an eye out for opportunities to meet.
Sincerely,
Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA
