Celebrating Student Convocation at Tal Anderson Field at Maverick Park.
There is nothing quite like the excitement of the first week of a new academic year to put a university’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals into perspective. It is an inspiring reminder of the reason we are all here at UNO: the success of our students in and out of the classroom and the positive impact they will have on this community when they graduate. Student success is something is that we all contribute to, whether you are a faculty or staff member, or a student supporting their peers.
We don’t just talk about our goals and aspirations at UNO – we act on them. In this month’s newsletter you will see how we are eliminating roadblocks to student achievement, nurturing success along each student’s academic journey, and establishing our university as the destination for lifelong learning in Nebraska.
If you haven’t yet, make sure to mark Friday, Oct. 6 on your calendars for the State of the University address and reception! This is an opportunity for our university and Omaha community to celebrate a year of achievement and a look ahead at what we will accomplish together in the future.
Let’s have another great year, Mavericks!

UNO’s New Microcredentials Offer Rapid Upskilling to Meet Top Workforce Needs
UNO is fully committed to supporting workforce development in Nebraska. Thanks to our new microcredential program, learners at any age or stage in their professional careers can increase their knowledge of in-demand skills through short-form non-credit courses.
Behind every exceptional learner is a student advisor who is fully dedicated to their success in and outside of the classroom. University staff like Kristen and Leanna who go the extra mile to support students inspire me every day.
The Maverick alumni network continues to grow. Congratulations to the 529 Mavericks who graduated this summer! The 132 first-generation students who earned their degrees – nearly half of all undergraduate recipients – are a testament to our social mobility mission at UNO.
