Accessibility Topic: Tables

Tables are used to display tabular data, in rows and columns.

Tables make content accessible by simply showing the relationships between many data points. Accessible tables are visually styled and are marked up in the code and can be navigated with assistive technology tools.

Accessible tables make content easier to read for people who rely on screen readers, use any type of assistive technology, and who benefit from good information design in general. Accessible tables are required by digital accessibility standards.

  • Do not use a table without formatting to make two columns of text appear on the page.
  • Do not use a table to place an image next to text.
  • Do not skip a cell - each cell must have content.

If the site you're responsible for has a table that needs to be formatted, you will receive an email with an Excel file attached showing pages that need to be fixed. Instructions for correcting the table will be included in the email.

Updates must be completed by December 31, 2025.

A review of all pages on the unomaha.edu site will begin in January of 2026. Pages that have not been corrected may be removed from the website.

The UNO website must be in compliance on April 24, 2026.

Please email uno.web@nebraska.edu if you need assistance.
