In light of the events that have taken place in Lincoln over the past few days, I wanted to write to you today to not only stand in solidarity with our colleagues at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, but also to make our entire campus community aware of the help and support available here at UNO for victims and survivors of interpersonal violence.
As University of Nebraska System President Ted Carter mentioned on Wednesday, sexual assault is a very real and serious issue. Likewise, we take very seriously any situation that threatens the health, safety, and well-being of our campus community.
Your success as a student or an employee at UNO is dependent on experiencing a safe, welcoming environment. We are committed wholeheartedly to maintaining such an environment and providing support wherever we can.
If you have experienced sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, or stalking, please know that you do not have to face this alone.
We have people here on-campus at UNO who can listen, discuss resources and reporting options, and provide emotional support—not only for victims and survivors, but also for loved ones offering their support. These services are free, caring, confidential, and importantly, judgement-free.
Additional information on confidential resources for victim and survivors of interpersonal violence can be found on the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center website. Students can receive free and confidential counseling support through UNO’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Faculty and staff can receive such support through the Faculty and Staff Employee Assistance Program (FSEAP).
If you have experienced an incident of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, stalking, and/or retaliation, please explore your options for reporting to UNO’s Title IX Coordinator within the Office of Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion.
