Encourage students to meet with a career advisor and to access PathwayU, a platform for students to match their interests to career paths. Advisors help students explore careers, learn more about Major Exploration and Degree Discovery Days, apply for internships, and get ready for a job search.
While you’re asking students about advisement, consider asking these questions, “What is going well in class? What content is difficult/unclear? What do you need to be successful?”
Getting feedback from students is a great way to engage them in discussions around content and course structure. Small group discussions and anonymous surveys may encourage more candid responses from students.
If you want a colleague with expertise in teaching to discuss student feedback, consider participating in TABS – Teaching Analysis By Students. The program offers free and confidential consultations to full and part-time faculty and graduate teaching assistants.
You might also ask students if they plan to engage in any of the many ways UNO celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.
Finally, ask students if they know about UNO’s Student Wellness Coaching. The program supports students who struggle with time management, want to improve their study skills, or need help with non-urgent matters such as stress reduction and goal setting. Students can schedule up to eight free and confidential sessions.
